AMBASSADOR SPOTLIGHT: JAY SMITH
Name:
- Jay Smith
How long have you been a GLI Ambassador?
- One year
What is your favorite part about being a GLI Ambassador?
- Meeting people from every corner of Louisville and learning their unique stories, being a GLI ambassador allows me to experience so much of what makes our city amazing by introducing me to great business owners and organizations.
A fun fact about me is…
- I’ve survived some comical yet serious injuries over the years, from electrocution by rock crushing plant to torn knees from laser tag and skydiving to a falcon attack. Basically, I’m Wile E. Coyote, prone to calamity but unbreakable.
What is the best career advice you’ve received?
- My First Sergeant many years ago gave me advice I’ve never forgotten and has served me well (I’m paraphrasing because it’s been 30 years):
“Move with purpose and create space every chance you get, whether it’s emptying the garbage on your way out the door, combining tasks when they overlap, or chaining stops on a trip. You never know when the capacity you created will be exactly what you need to survive.”
What does being a GLI investor mean to you?
- Being a GLI investor is about being part of something larger. It means contributing to the growth of Louisville’s business community, helping connect people, and creating opportunities for all to thrive. It’s about being an active participant in shaping the city’s future, not just in business but as a place people are proud to call home.
What is your favorite thing to do in Louisville?
- Check out new independent businesses and restaurants, attend local events and soak in our Parks system which is amazing.
What do you do to make greater Louisville GREATER?
- We strive to bring tech innovations and great careers to all through our partnerships with JCPS and RBTI/AMPED. Additionally, we are passionate about our Canopy certifications and helping grow this important movement in Kentucky to drive business beyond profitability to purpose, social impact, and sustainability.
