MEET THE COUNCILMEMBERS: KEVIN KRAMER

GLI engages in advocacy at all levels of government, but works especially closely with local government to ensure a business-friendly environment. Over the next few months, we will highlight members of Louisville Metro Council to help our investors learn a bit more about their background and priorities. GLI is a non-partisan agency, and these posts are for educational purposes only.

KEVIN KRAMER

Councilman Kevin Kramer is a member of the Louisville Metro Council and represents District 11.

District (number and neighborhoods you represent):

  • District 11, which includes parts of City of Jeffersontown, City of Hurstbourne Acres, City of Forest Hills, Arlington Meadows, Landis Lakes, Landherr Estates, Stony Brook, and Waterson Woods Subdivisions

Day job/ professional experience:

  • Kevin Kramer Councilman Kevin Kramer has been a teacher at Mercy Academy of Louisville for over 25 years. He also taught at St. Gabriel and St. Denis. Kramer taught social studies and religion at St. Edward and St. Xavier.  Kramer has also held several management positions with Wyandot Snack Foods.  Kramer was elected to the first Louisville/Jefferson County Metro Council in November 2002.In January of 2006, Kramer was elected and served as the Metro Council President. He currently is the vice chair of Budget Committee and is a member of Public Works Committee and a member of Government Oversight/Audit & Appointments Committee.

    In 2024, Kramer was appointed Chair of National League of Cities Information Technology and Communications Committee and is a member of the Steering Committee for the Boad of Directors.  He also served on the Board of Directors of the Family Scholar House from 2014 to 2017.  Kramer is a graduate from the 2019 Bingham Fellows Class hosted by Leadership Louisville Center.

    A graduate of St. Xavier High school, Councilman Kramer holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Bellarmine University and a Master’s in Education degree from the University of Louisville.

    Kramer has been active in the J-town and Hikes Point communities his entire life. He has coached for the Hikes Point Optimist Club, Southeast YMCA and St. Martha.  Kramer has also taught adult education classes for the Louisville Community Foundation and Jefferson County Public Schools.

  • The most important issue facing Louisville is public safety.

What is your top local priority in 2024?

  • My top local priority for 2024 is addressing deferred maintenance and improving infrastructure to our roadways, public buildings and parks.

What role can the business community play in helping Louisville grow?

  • Businesses can help Louisville grow by creating jobs and investing in people through training and education.
