As of midnight September 30, the United States government is shut down. This is the first government shutdown since 2018. During this period all federal employees deemed nonessential will be furloughed. Essential workers include law enforcement and public safety workers, military personnel, air traffic controllers, medical staff, and emergency response. The shutdown will end when Congress agrees on funding for the next year or passes a stop gap to cover 30 days of operations to allow for more negotiations.
