KY Interim Session starts this week
The 2023 Interim Session of the Kentucky General Assembly began this week, with Interim Joint Committees and Special Committees hosting their first meetings on Monday, June 5. The Interim Session lasts from June-November and during that time, the House and Senate legislative committees meet jointly to explore topics for the next session or hear about the implementation of recently passed legislation. Additionally, the Interim is a time for special committees or task forces to meet on specific topics to make recommendations for the next session.
Topics to expect:
- Budget – The 2024 convening of the General Assembly will be a biennial budget session. With the House budget planning already underway and a full complement of Budget Review Subcomittees set to meet this summer, the 2024 budget will be a key focus of the interim.
- 2023 Bills – The 2023 General Assembly included the passage of several major initiatives and we anticipate the interim committees to discuss the implementation of many of those policies including medical marijuana, sports betting, parental rights in education, and juvenile justice reform.
