GLI RAISES $6 MILLION FOR GREATER LOUISVILLE 2020 CAMPAIGN

Greater Louisville 2020

Regional economic growth initiative will shape future of greater Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 8, 2019) — Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) is near the finish line for its 2020 campaign, raising more than $6 million or 80 percent of its $7.5 million goal as of July 1 to fund regional economic development, public policy advocacy, workforce and business attraction. “More than 160 companies have contributed to the 2020 Campaign,” said Kent Oyler, president and CEO of GLI. “Contributions are still being pursued and the bulk of the remaining funds will come from anticipated grants.”

The Greater Louisville 2020 campaign is chaired by Bill Samuels Jr., chairman emeritus of Makers Mark Distillery, and co-chaired by Evelyn Strange, president of Advanced Electrical Systems Inc. and Ed Glasscock, chairman emeritus of Frost Brown Todd LLC. “The investments made in this campaign will have a critical payoff for the region that will move business, economic development and population growth forward,” said Samuels.

Greater Louisville 2020 is an aggressive and comprehensive regional economic growth and capacity-building initiative centered around three goals:

  1. Recruit businesses and grow jobs
  2. Recruit, grow, and retain workforce
  3. Advocate for a strong business environment

Funding allocations among the three goals of the 2020 campaign are directed by donors or granting organizations, according to campaign leaders.

“The $5 billion in economic activity generated annually across the region from the work of this campaign will create thousands of jobs and accelerate the region’s growth,” said Strange. The $7.5 million Greater Louisville 2020 calls for the attraction of 5,000 new high-wage jobs, plus another 6,000 induced jobs, and doubling the number of sustainable startups. On the workforce front, the plan’s 5-year goal is to increase the region’s working age population by 38,000 and increase the number of degreed adults in our region by 18,000. “The goals of the 2020 campaign will not be reached by chance. We must invest to achieve growth,” said Glasscock.
