Thank You! For a Successful Annual Meeting
(Louisville, KY) – Celebrating the competitive spirit of Greater Louisville was the prevailing theme of GLI’s Annual Meeting, presented by Hilliard Lyons, on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. The largest gathering of business, civic, and community leaders included 1,100 attendees at the Louisville Palace.
“For the last 20 years, when big challenges and opportunities arose, GLI was there to make sure Louisville won. We want Louisville to win just like all of you,” GLI President & CEO Kent Oyler said, “We are in a competition with our peer cities and there will be winners and losers. Together, we will win. This is our time.”
Ben Breier, President & CEO of Kindred Healthcare, gave the evening’s keynote address. His remarks focused on the growing aging care sector and the potential for Louisville to benefit from the burgeoning industry.
“Louisville is poised to be at the forefront for shaping solutions in aging care in America,” Breier told the crowd. “To be the hub, we need to encourage partnerships and collaboration, even among competitors, and aggressively pursue innovation.”
Governor Matt Bevin addressed the audience via video congratulating Bill Samuels, Jr. on his Gold Cup win.
“You are a big part of what we say when we say ‘We are Kentucky,’” Governor Bevin said.
Mr. Samuels, Chairman Emeritus of Maker’s Mark, received the Gold Cup for his lifetime of contributions to the Greater Louisville region both in business and philanthropy.
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer spoke about the increased economic activity and tourism throughout Louisville over the past several years.
“By any measure, our city is going through a surge like we’ve never seen before and I’d like to thank all of you for being a part of that,” Mayor Fischer said.
Fischer also presented the Silver Fleur-de-Lis to Louisville City Football Club in recognition of their stellar season. Apellis Pharmaceuticals and Kindred Healthcare also received Silver Fleur-de-Lis for their achievements in 2017.
