GLI ANNOUNCES FEDERAL AGENDA
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 9, 2019) — Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) releases its 2019-2020 Federal Agenda as it prepares to meet with lawmakers and federal officials in our nation’s capitol for GLI’s DC Fly In this week. Both the Federal Agenda and the trip are presented by Kindred Healthcare, a GLI Top Investor.
“The Federal Agenda is the result of a lot of hard work by GLI investors, who come together to find consensus and identify the key federal priorities that will help move our community forward. It’s truly a members-based effort that reflects the business community’s commitment to growing Greater Louisville’s economy,” said Tim Hagerty, GLI Public Policy Council Chair and Member of Frost Brown Todd LLC.
Key policy positions in the 2019-2020 Federal Agenda, presented by Kindred Healthcare: • GLI calls for comprehensive immigration reform to allow immigrants to continue making valuable contributions to Greater Louisville’s economy. • GLI urges Congress and The White House to find consensus on a plan to modernize America’s aging infrastructure. • GLI supports congressional approval of the United States Mexico Canada Agreement, which will bring certainty for Greater Louisville businesses doing business with Mexico and Canada. • GLI supports continued updates to the federal tax code to support economic development and encourage business investment. • GLI encourages Congress to pass legislation increasing access for employers to Association Healthcare Plans.
GLI’s approach to taking positions on public policy issues and setting legislative priorities is rooted firmly in our investor base. The process begins with the convening of GLI’s six issue advisory committees, which are made of up GLI investors and are divided into focus areas such as transportation and infrastructure, health care, and education and workforce development. The recommendations of these committees and the results of a policy survey open to all GLI investors then make their way to our Public Policy Council, which is tasked with studying, debating, and approving GLI’s policy positions. Finally, the Public Policy Council’s recommendations are sent to the GLI Board of Directors for final approval.
