2017 Vogt Awards Application Period Now Open

For Immediate Release:  April 5, 2017

(Louisville, KY) – The application period for the 2017 Vogt Awards kicked off at today’s Venture Connectors meeting.  The Vogt Awards help early-stage start-up companies develop into viable and successful businesses by providing non-dilutive funding, dedicated mentorship, workshops and support. Applications will be accepted through May 31, 2017.

The program provides robust mentorship and support services to up to six early-stage entrepreneurs. Each winner will receive $25,000 in non-dilutive funding and an additional package of valuable services for early-stage entrepreneurs.  In the past, applicants were required to manufacture a physical product to be eligible. Now, entrepreneurs from the Greater Louisville area that have the potential to create a scalable business based on innovative, technology-based products are also included in the program.

“The Vogt Awards is Greater Louisville’s only accelerator that offers funding and support without taking a significant stake in the companies involved,” Ellie Puckett, Commercialization Director for GLI’s EnterpriseCorp, said, “We want to cast a wide net to help all those innovators in our region get their start-ups to the next level.”

The Vogt Invention and Innovation Fund, founded by Henry Vogt Hueser and an endowment at the Community Foundation of Louisville, helps support entrepreneurial efforts of engineers and innovators to fund the product development and commercialization of their ideas.

“Last year, we assisted companies with revolutionary ideas across a variety of industries. From construction and healthcare to e-commerce and education, thiscommunity is rich with people working towards transforming our world. The Vogt Awards are a true reflection of Mr. Heuser’s spirit,” Susan Barry, President & CEO of the Community Foundation of Louisville, said.

The Vogt Awards winners will be selected in August.  The 10-week mentoring and support program will occur throughout the fall. The full roster of partners and mentors will be released at a later date.

The Vogt Awards program culminates with Vogt Demo Day in November.  Each winner is given the opportunity to showcase their business to the entrepreneurial community and share the progress they made thanks to the Vogt Awards program.

Applications are being accepted from April 5 to May 31, 2017 and are open to entrepreneurs based in Louisville, surrounding Kentucky counties, and Southern Indiana. For all criteria and to apply, visit http://www.vogtawards.com/

About The Vogt Awards & Henry Heuser

Henry Vogt Heuser, who died in 1999, was an exemplary corporate citizen and a gifted inventor and entrepreneur. He was a native of Louisville who spent his entire career working for Henry Vogt Machine Company, including 28 years as its president. Whenever Henry had an idea about how to make something better, quicker, or easier, all he had to do was walk out to the shop floor to assess its viability and commercial potential. The endowment he created at the Community Foundation of Louisville to establish this award will allow engineers and entrepreneurs to access the same kinds of resources. The Vogt Award is intended not only to memorialize Henry’s legacy, but also to inspire more inventors to pursue their goals right here in Louisville.

The Community Foundation of Louisville is the largest charitable foundation in Kentucky with over $485 million in assets and more than 1,450 different funds, each with a charitable purpose defined by the donor. In calendar year 2016, the Community Foundation made 9,000 grants totaling $52 million to local, national and national nonprofits. As a leader in philanthropy, we connect donors, nonprofits and civic partners to create lasting impact in community. We have the expertise to help you do more than you ever thought possible with your charitable giving. Join us in being a force for good in our community.
