INVESTOR SPOTLIGHT: Scarlet’s Bakery
Describe what your organization does in two sentences.
Scarlet’s Bakery exists to employ, empower, and equip women that have been exploited or trafficked with a new career. We don’t just hire people to bake cupcakes we bake cupcakes to hire people.
Who do you serve?
We serve customers with the Derby City’s sweetest treats. Our service extends to businesses, individuals, families and corporations. We also serve a community of women that are impacted by our program through job training development.
One fact you may not know about my organization is…
We are a non-profit social enterprise. We are maximizing commercial strategies to have a significant impact on the well-being of women that have been exploited and trafficked.
What sets your business apart from others in the way you attract and retain talent?
Scarlet’s Bakery serves two types of talent. Professional staff that are in the culinary field are attracted to our mission and our product availability. They can grow both professionally and in leadership. The participants in our program are supported and retained by a strong counseling and career development program that is trauma informed to meet the needs of each individual.
What do you like about being an investor in Greater Louisville Inc.?
We like being an investor in GLI because of the great sense of support, networking, and community engagement. When we all work together, we are grateful to be a part!
How does your organization engage in the community?
We engage in the community by attending local events such as farmer’s markets, university events, and food truck events. We also engage with other local companies such as local roasters and other non-profits.
