Dear Friends,
As portions of our regional economy come back online, we know the hard work is just beginning. Since the submission of our Healthy At Work in Greater Louisville reopening proposal, we have been collecting your feedback, questions, and concerns to share with government leaders. Thanks to your engagement, adjustments and clarification have been made to guidance related to masks and temperature screenings. GLI also continues to communicate the need for forward-looking plans and timelines to better prepare our businesses for reopening.
One major challenge ahead that will impact every employer in every industry is access to child care. We are actively working to identify ways we can support our region’s childcare providers.
Lastly, more work needs to be done at the federal level. GLI is closely monitoring and communicating with congressional leaders about proposals related to legal liability, local and state government support, and loan forgiveness.
As many of you are working to update your business’ safety protocols and procedures, we know many recipients of the Paycheck Protection Program have serious concerns in the coming weeks to meet the loan forgiveness eligibility requirements. The overwhelming majority of businesses in Greater Louisville are still closed or facing reduced capacity as they return, so the ability to hire or rehire continues to be a major challenge. We need to urge congressional members to extend the deadline so businesses can qualify for loan forgiveness. To do so, we need specific information from you.
Job Seeker Connection Program
GLI has partnered with KentuckianaWorks to launch a Job Seeker Connection program. This program supports workers who have lost their job or experienced a pay reduction due to COVID-19. Job seekers can share their contact information and skillsets, desired industries and willingness to participate in training. Our team will filter this information and connect potential employers to interested candidates.
Trends across the country have indicated that employers are having difficulty in filling openings and recalling workers. By bringing opportunities directly to job seekers, we hope to facilitate a faster, stronger return to the labor market.
If you would like to participate as a job seeker enter your information here. If you are an employer who is interested in receiving contact information from job seekers please email GLI’s Director of Education and Workforce Connectivity, Jessie Schook.
Get PPE for Your Returning Workforce
GLI is working hard to support our business community. If you are in need of PPE for your returning workforce, you can purchase it on our Crisis Support Hub. We have also acquired a small supply for those who may need it more urgently. If your company is in need of disposable face masks, you can purchase them in allotments of 50 for approximately $62.50 (plus sales tax) by placing your order here. We will have the masks available for pick up at GLI offices during scheduled hours throughout the coming weeks. More information on those details coming soon. For more information, please contact Deana Epperly Karem. |
