From the Desk of the CEO: 10/19/21
We are just a week away from our 36th annual Greater Louisville Idea Development Exploration (GLIDE). In a few days, 120 of Louisville’s top business and civic leaders will be heading up I-65 to explore Indianapolis and specifically observe their economic development model and impressive progress in advancing racial equity.
Over the three-day trip, participants will get an up-close look at how the Indianapolis Chamber serves as a one-stop-shop for economic development throughout their multi-county region. We will hear from a number of partners, elected leaders, and stakeholders on how the process works as well as challenges they have faced. GLI’s main role in the current model is to manage the Greater Louisville Regional Partnership and hand off leads to county partners. We hope that the Indianapolis model will show how a more streamlined approach would benefit businesses, site selectors, and economic growth as a whole.
Building off last year’s GLIDE trip, which focused on lifting up Louisville’s West End, inclusion will also be a major focus on GLIDE: Indy. Several speakers are scheduled to discuss how progress in DE&I has led to the economic growth and talent attraction and retention in Indianapolis. We will specifically focus on how the business community has leveraged the Business Equity for Indy initiative to bring corporate leaders together to advance equity.
It will be an action-packed trip and I am looking forward to reporting back on our top takeaways. We are hopeful the experience will give us ideas to further develop our current economic development model and inspiration to continue driving progress to advance racial equity.
