What you missed at GLI’s inaugural Advocacy Day in Frankfort
Yesterday, business and civic leaders from greater Louisville traveled to Frankfort to advocate for policies that will help grow our region’s economy and develop our workforce. More than 60 GLI investors participated in GLI’s inaugural Advocacy Day in Frankfort, an event designed to connect members of the business community directly with key decision makers in the Commonwealth. Attendees met with top policymakers in the state to discuss issues such as infrastructure investment, workforce development, city and county government tax reform, sports wagering, and criminal justice reform.
Members of legislative leadership, administration officials, and constitutional officers met with Advocacy Day attendees, including:
- Attorney General Daniel Cameron
- Commissioner of Agriculture Ryan Quarles
- State Auditor Mike Harmon
- Acting Secretary Eric Friedlander, Cabinet for Health and Family Services
- Dorsey Ridley, Director of Legislative Services, Office of the Governor
- Senate President Robert Stivers
- House Speaker David Osborne
- Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer
- Senate Majority Caucus Chair Julie Raque Adams
- Senate Minority Floor Leader Morgan McGarvey
- House Minority Floor Leader Joni Jenkins
Civic leaders from Louisville Metro Government also participated in GLI’s Advocacy Day, such as Mayor Greg Fischer, Metro Council President David James, and Metro Council members Mark Fox, Paula McCraney, and Markus Winkler.
Policymakers addressed a wide range of major issues in Frankfort, updated members on the 2020-2022 budget process, and took questions on priorities important to attendees and the greater Louisville business community.
A major initiative for GLI in 2020 is to coordinate grassroots advocacy from the Greater Louisville business community. As GLI’s President and CEO, Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, stressed at the outset of Advocacy Day, the success of passing pro-business, pro-growth legislation in Frankfort is dependent on active and consistent engagement from business and civic leaders from the greater Louisville region.
GLI investors are encouraged to keep up with the action in Frankfort and to continue advocating for the business community’s priorities by keeping an eye out for GLI’s Action Alerts, subscribing to our weekly newsletter, Policy Distilled, attending Advocacy events, joining a GLI Issue Advisory Committee, and reading our Advocacy blog.
Many thanks to the sponsors who made GLI’s Advocacy Day possible.
