Nurse Licensure Compact Legislation one step closer to law in Indiana
GLI released the following statement today on Indiana House Bill 1344 (Nurse Licensure Compact):
“Indiana is one step away from joining Kentucky and 30 other states in adopting the interstate nurse licensure compact. GLI is thrilled that the Indiana Senate overwhelmingly passed House Bill 1344. This measure will eliminate a burdensome layer of bureaucracy for nurses and hospitals alike, as Indiana’s new status in the compact will allow our region’s nurses to practice on either side of the Ohio River without having to acquire multiple licenses. As GLI works to position our bi-state region to be at the forefront of our nation’s health care solutions, it is crucial that regional health care companies and providers have the flexibility they need to operate as effectively and efficiently as possible. From nurse workforce shortages to increasing access to care, this legislation will help cement the status of our bi-state region as at the forefront of modern health care delivery. We thank State Representative Ed Clere for his tremendous leadership on this top GLI legislative priority and urge Governor Eric Holcomb to sign this bill into law.”
