Kentucky releases reopening guidance for child care providers

Kentucky has now released reopening guidance for child care centers. Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Eric Friedlander outlined the guidance in a press conference on May 21, noting, “Child care is one of the areas we know is critical to reopening the economy. It is critical to parents and has been critical to our essential workers.”

Supporting the safe reopening of child care services has been a key priority for GLI. Access to child care is critical to helping furloughed workers return to work and allowing small business owners to focus on restarting operations. GLI has advocated aggressively to the Beshear administration to prioritize the reopening of child care centers. GLI has also communicated with members of the greater Louisville congressional delegation about the importance of providing as many resources as possible to stabilize and support the child care sector.

According to Secretary Friedlander:

  • On June 8, in-home child care programs can open.
  • On June 15, center-based licensed child care programs can reopen to all families.

Providers and parents should all be aware of the minimum reopening requirements, which can be accessed below.
