IRS to move federal tax deadline to July
U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin announced plans for the Internal Revenue Service to move the tax filing deadline for this year to July 15, 2020. In a tweet, Secretary Mnuchin stated, “At @realDonaldTrump’s direction, we are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15. All taxpayers and businesses will have this additional time to file and make payments without interest or penalties.”
The IRS released a statement clarifying that the change only applies to the federal filing deadline. However, the Kentucky General Assembly is considering legislation that would conform state deadlines to federal changes throughout the duration of the pandemic.
