Influencers Address GLI Issue Committees
While working through the final weeks of the Kentucky General Assembly, GLI Advocacy convened our Issue Committees around our 2018 Federal Agenda. We welcomed several key influencers to several of our committees to speak about the biggest business issues that are facing our region on the federal level.
Representative Trey Hollingsworth from Indiana’s 9th Congressional District visited with our Bi-State Issues Committee to talk about his legislative priorities for the coming year and to answer questions from committee members. Representative Hollingsworth discussed his views on some of the structural problems that Washington faces and steps that he argues need to be taken to expand and improve our workforce.
Andy Hightower, Senior Policy Adviser in the Education & Workforce Development Cabinet, spoke with our Education and Workforce Development Committee about the cabinet’s workforce goals and priorities. In addition, Mr. Hightower provided an overview of data and analysis from the Cabinet highlighting some of the Commonwealth’s most pressing workforce needs and skills gaps.
Andrew Condia, Field Representative for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, talked with our Business Competitiveness Committee about the Senate’s accomplishments over the past year and issues that Congress intends to address next. Mr. Condia touched upon the impact of last year’s tax reform bill and the most recent spending plan approved by Congress. He also responded to questions on issues such as online sales taxes and how Congress plans to address immigration.
GLI Advocacy will be releasing its 2018 Federal Agenda later this spring. It will be used as the guiding document for the 2018 Congressional Summit, which will be hosted in Louisville this summer in place of the GLI D.C. Fly In.
