GLI backs Metro proposal to support small businesses

In a letter to Louisville Metro Council leaders, GLI voiced support for a recently announced proposal to utilize CARES Act funds to support small businesses and eviction prevention efforts in Jefferson County.

“I wanted to communicate to you GLI’s enthusiastic support for the city’s recent proposal to utilize $42 million in federal funds allocated through the CARES Act to support eviction prevention efforts and assist small businesses during these difficult economic times. This plan will provide vital assistance to the small businesses that serve as the backbone of our economy and help support workers and families throughout Louisville,” said GLI President & CEO Sarah Davasher-Wisdom to Metro Council President David James, Budget Committee Chair Bill Hollander, and Budget Committee Vice Chair Kevin Kramer.

The proposal, announced on June 15, 2020, includes $21 million for grants to small businesses impacted by COVID-19 and another $21 million to help households struggling to pay rent. The proposal will require approval from Metro Council. GLI will keep the business community updated on the progress of the proposal and any additional information that is released.
