West Louisville
Working to Your Advantage
|
Thank you for visiting the official West Louisville website - dedicated to showcasing the dynamic business offerings
of West Louisville.
Since 2001, the 13.7 square mile territory identified as West Louisville has been the focus of a concentrated
effort to make Louisville's inner city a more competitive place to do business.
To build upon the assets of the area, community leaders contracted with Harvard professor Michael
Porter and his organization, the Initiative for Competitive Inner Cities (ICIC), to assess the strengths of
West Louisville.
After evaluating the area for one year, the ICIC team concluded that West Louisville was poised for significant
economic growth if it could capitalize on its strengths as (1) a strategic location, (2) home to an available
workforce, (3) an inexpensive place to do business, and (4) an area that successfully nurtures select business
clusters.
With help from private, public and nonprofit leaders who partnered to create economic development strategies
for the area, West Louisville has since attracted the attention of many growing businesses that have invested
hundreds of millions of dollars in the area and hired hundreds of local residents.
In 2004 alone, West Louisville businesses created more than 200 new jobs with new payrolls totaling over $8 million.
Those same companies invested nearly $80 million in facility enhancements, new equipment purchases, and
technology improvements.
These notable investments along with the community's efforts to enhance the area are helping to make West
Louisville one of Kentucky's new economic hotspots.
It's worked for many others. Now, find out how West Louisville works for you!
