Louisville, Lexington Leaders Announce Second Joint Leadership Expedition

Louisville, KY | Lexington, KY (December 16, 2013) For the second time since 2010, representatives of two of Kentucky’s largest chambers of commerce – Greater Louisville Inc. and Commerce Lexington Inc.– will come together for a joint intercity visit. The destination selected for the 2014 Leadership Expedition presented by CHASE / J.P. Morgan and LG&E / Kentucky Utilities Co. is Charlotte, North Carolina, June 1-3.

Commerce Lexington Inc. has led its own intercity visits for 74 years, while Greater Louisville Inc.’s GLIDE trip has been occurring each year since 1985.

“Regionalism is essential to being competitive in today’s increasingly global economy,” said Stephen Gault of Stephen C. Gault Co., 2014 Expedition Co-Chair.  “The timing is right for a joint trip.  It will provide a great opportunity to build on the strong collaboration we have right now between the two cities, which will further strengthen our region and help position us for future success.”

First State Investments International, Inc. approved for economic development incentives
Project will create 12 new jobs

First State Investments International, Inc. was approved for economic development incentives at this morning’s meeting of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) in Frankfort, Ky.  The project would create 12 new jobs,  $15 million in new annual payroll and nearly $2 million in new investment.

“This company represents the kind of talent attraction and investment that add significantly to the region’s economic development and quality of life” said Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. “The professional and high paying jobs that the company offers mesh well with the important services that they bring to our community. This is a win on every level.”

“It is exciting to see the potential for our financial services industry,” said GLI President & CEO Craig Richard. “Their interest in expanding in Louisville says so much about our thriving business community and our growing talent pool.”

Kentucky Backed Startup Inks Deal with Signature Healthcare

LOUISVILLE, KY – December 5, 2013 --- A Kentucky startup, Neuronetrix, backed by an equity investment from the Cabinet for Economic Development’s Enterprise Fund and recognized as one of GLI’s EnterpriseCorp Hot Dozen Companies, announced that it has signed an agreement with Louisville-based Signature Healthcare LLC, and its Serenity Healthcare Division, to make Neuronetrix’s emerging neurodiagnostic devices known as the COGNISION System available at 27 special care facilities located throughout the United States. 

The COGNISION System, a unique piece of non-invasive headgear that scans the brain to help determine and measure cognitive function, has been in development for more than 10 years.  Recently, Neuronetrix was recognized as a finalist in GLI’s 2013 Inc.credible Awards in the category of Innovation & Technology.

The COGNISION System has applications in diagnosing Alzheimer’sdisease, concussions and other brain disorders. Signature’s Serenity Healthcare works with universities to provide specialized care to
individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia through testing and evaluation of non-pharmacological interventions that might improve outcomes for Serenity’s special needs and elderly residents.

“Mix & Go Baby Bottle” Earns Vogt Invention & Innovation Award

Louisville, KY (November 21, 2013) ----LaShana Harris is a mother, lawyer, businessperson, and now she can add award-winning entrepreneur to the list. Harris’ early stage startup company, Babylocity,is the 2013 recipient of the Vogt Invention and Innovation $100,000 Demo Day Award presented today at the conclusion of the Demo Day Showcase hosted by the Community Foundation of Louisville (CFL) and GLI’s EnterpriseCorp.

Vogt Demo Day provided four early stage manufacturing companies, all recipients of the 2013 Vogt Award Development Grants announced earlier this year, the opportunity to show off their products to the business community and compete for an award of up to $100,000 toward the further development of their project. The three other competing companies were Liberate Medical, a Louisville-based medical device company, ModBox Storage LLC, makers of modular shipping and storage boxes for contractor job sites, and Wixel Technologies, creators of a digital product to help the visually impaired.

Vogt Invention & Innovation Awards Demo Day To Showcase Early Stage Manufacturing Companies

Louisville, KY (November 7, 2013) The Vogt Invention & Innovation Awards will showcase the 2013 class of four early stage manufacturing companies at the 2013 Demo Day scheduled for November 21st at The Nucleus Building. 

The 2013 Vogt Award winners will have the opportunity to show off their products to the business community and compete for an award of up to $100,000 toward the further development of their project.  The winner will be announced at the event.

“The Vogt Invention and Innovation Fund has taken care and courage to ensure that it not only lives up to Henry Heuser’s original charitable vision, but provides a program that is relevant to today’s inventor,“ said Susan Barry, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Louisville. The Vogt Invention & Innovation Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation and is the source of funding for the awards. GLI’s EnterpriseCorp administers the program.

The Demo day event will be held at The Nucleus Building, 300 East Market Street, on the ground floor in the auditorium.  Doors open at 2:30PM, and presentations start at 3:00PM.   The $100,000 winner will be announced at approximately 4:30PM. Louisville's Own Paul Varga, Chairman and CEO of Brown- Forman Corp, To Headline GLI's 2014 Annual Meeting

Louisville, KY (October 24, 2013) - Greater Louisville Inc. - The Metro Chamber of Commerce (GLI) announced today that Brown-Forman Corporation Chairman and CEO Paul Varga will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2014 GLI Annual Meeting.

Along with presenting a high profile corporate keynote speaker, GLI's annual meeting brings together the most prestigious gathering of business, community and civic leaders for a celebratory evening that includes a review of the past year's successes, an overview of strategies for future business development activity and the presentation of a series of business and business-related awards.

A Louisville native, Varga was appointed president and chief executive officer of Brown-Forman Corporation in 2005 and became chairman of the company in 2007.  He has been a member of the company's board of directors since 2003. He began his career at Brown-Forman as a summer intern in 1986. He subsequently was promoted to a variety of positions within the corporation, ranging from on-premise marketing to managing the Jack Daniel's brand to serving as president and chief executive officer of the company's Brown Forman Beverages subsidiary.
