Involvement Opportunity: Support the HLBC by volunteering on the "Talento Latino" TRC Team

Would you like to support the mission of the HLBC while making important business contacts at the same time? This is your chance!  The HLBC is currently seeking volunteers to participate in this year's Total Resource Campaign (TRC).

The TRC engages 40+ corporate teams, comprised of 1-12 individuals each to secure donations and sell memberships, sponsorships and advertising on behalf of GLI.  This year, volunteers on the "Talento Latino" team will participate in the TRC to generate support for the HLBC.

TRC volunteers have a unique opportunity to become more engaged in GLI and the community while enhancing their professional development through sales training and building relationships at exclusive TRC networking events. For more information regarding last TRC campaign, click here.

Featured Investor: Message from UPS

UPS is proud of our relationship with the Hispanic Latino Business Council. We believe that diversity strengthens business and builds community; whether it is through our workforce, our vendors, our customers or our fellow business communities. Last year, UPS and the HLBC hosted an event to support local Hispanic businesses. A similar event is planned this year to connect Hispanic business leaders and professionals with other area business, civic and government leaders. UPS is also partnering with several local Hispanic non-profit organizations as we learn more about our region’s growing Hispanic business segment, build networks and help provide community solutions through UPS volunteerism and other resources.

This commitment is central to UPS’s business and strongly linked to our values and mission. To learn more about what UPS can do for your business, be sure to visit UPS.com.

Featured Member: Tom Masterson, President of T.E.M. Electric Inc.

With a Bachelors of Science in Finance from the University of Louisville and an Associates degree in Architecture from the University of Kentucky, Tom Masterson brings 35 years of experience in all phases of electrical work and operations to this industry. He holds a Masters and Contractors License in the state of Kentucky and is a certified electrical estimator.

In January 1999, Tom started T.E.M. Electric Co., Inc., a minority owned electrical contracting company, with 5 employees. T.E.M. brought in $450,000 that year and has continued to grow.  A Lexington office was established in early 2001 and a Louisville office opened in late 2002. Tom's leadership has guided the company to what is now: T.E.M. Group, Inc. with 65 employees and $11 million in revenue.

Through all of the growth and success, Tom has never forgotten where he started.  He continues to use his experience and knowledge to mentor other small businesses and dedicates his time to organizations in which he strongly believes. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Associated Builders and Contractors Education Foundation, is the Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors for Bluegrass Community and Technical College and serves as the Education Chairman on the executive committee of the HLBC.

Tom's hard work, dedication and leadership have earned him and his company a great deal of respect and recognition in the community.  In addition to being an Inc.credible Award winner, T.E.M. was recognized in an article by Messer Construction for the Minority/Women Business Enterprise Spotlight in the Spring of 2008.  In 2009, Tom was named "Small Business Person of the Year" by the Small Business Administration. During his White House visit to accept the SBA award, President Obama praised his successful leadership. To view video coverage of that presentation, click here.

Tom will be a panelist at our upcoming HLBC 4th Anniversary Banquet; click here to R.S.V.P.
