High Impact Program Wins U.S. Department of Commerce Award
The High Impact Program has been acknowledged locally as an award-winning program since
its creation in 2004. Now the program has earned national recognition for its innovation
and excellence. The U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration
awards honored the program in their "excellence in urban or suburban economic development"
category.
The evaluation and selection for this award were based on how effectively the nominated
programs use innovative, market-based strategies to improve urban or suburban economies.
In a news release Mayor Jerry Abramson stated, "To be recognized out of 110 different
communities' programs is quite an accomplishment, our High Impact program not only serves
our local companies, it also provides the opportunity for new growth in wealth and job
creation."
Each of the 110 nominations were evaluated by an independent selection panel comprised
of economic development and government officials and educators appointed by the U.S.
Assistant Secretary of Commerce of Economic Development.
