International newcomers to Greater Louisville offer
exceptional education, professional skills and credentials. But sometimes a lack of familiarity of the U.S.
style of business and cultural norms create barriers to success.
To address this challenge, the G.L.I.P. Mentorship Program
links established regional professionals with international protégés to offer
guidance and advice such as:
- Credential
and resume evaluations to secure a position in the U.S.
- U.S
cultural norms, best practices and workplace culture
- Vocation-specific
terminology and protocols
- Building
a professional network in the region
- Insight
into the region’s attractions and quality of life
In addition to a positive attitude toward newcomers to the
U.S., mentors should be established, having lived in the region for more than
two years and currently work or have extensive background in their profession.
Mentors commit
to meeting with their protégé for a minimum of 12 hours over a six month period and are asked to include
protégés in their circle of contacts.
