Host a Student from Eurasia in Your Home

Date: 2012-05-10

Host a Student from Eurasia in Your Home!

The WAC needs your help!  Our organization has been selected by the U.S. Department of State to welcome 10 student- leaders from Eastern Europe and Central Asia to Kentuckiana. WAC is looking for host families to host up to two English- speaking students for the 2012-2013 school year.

How is This Program Different From Others?

This program differs from other exchange programs in a fundamental way.  The students are selected by the Embassy in their native country based on their merit, personality, character, motivation, ideas, interest in civic activism and making a change to their communities. The countries chosen to participate are different than many other exchange programs and reflect developing countries and vital new democracies from Eastern Europe and Central Asia including the following:

·        Armenia

·        Azerbaijan

·        Georgia

·        Kazakhstan

·        Kosovo

·        Kyrgyzstan

·        Moldova

·        Russia

·        Tajikistan

·        Turkmenistan

·        Ukraine

What is the Role of Families during the school year?

Being the host family is the most important and rewarding part of the cultural exchange. Hosting is a tremendous experience during which you can share in a youngperson’s hopes and dreams and gain an unforgettable experience as they grow into a young leader for their country. Sharing your home will also give your family the great opportunity to learn about another culture, as well as create a lifelong friendship.

If you are interested in hosting a student or learning more, please contact the World Affairs Council of Kentucky & S. Indiana at (502) 561-5422 or christy.rhodes@worldkentucky.org.
