Amazing Global Marketplace® A Great Success!

Amazing Global Marketplace®

A Great Success!

agm2Louisville,KY (April 12, 2012) - On Wednesday, April 4 student teams from Eastern, Atherton and Seneca High Schools competed in the inaugural Amazing Global Marketplace World Campus Day event, the culminating event of the yearlong Amazing Global Marketplace®, a new international culture and business program. Top marks were earned by the Eastern High School team mentored by Glowtouch Technologies,Director of Support Services, Paul Kuamoo.

Six classes from Seneca, Eastern, and Atherton high schools sent three to four of their students to participate in the half day Amazing Global Marketplace World Campus event. Teams researched and acted upon international business scenarios developed by mentoring companies. Various locations on the Bellarmine campus were transformed into "global company headquarters" in China, France, Germany, India, Japan and Mexico. Each location was staffed by native business professionals. Students were challenged to make travel arrangements, convert currencies, make presentations while recognizing location specific cultural business norms, determine pricing and distribution routes and deal with real world set-backs, such as delays in product delivery.

Developed by Los Monitos Language Center, Greater Louisville International Professionals (Greater Louisville Inc.), Asia Institute - Crane House, Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) and hosted on the campus of Bellarmine University, Amazing Global Marketplace® is an experiential, educational and competitive program that enables students, working with mentors and local corporate sponsors, to engage in simulated international business scenarios. The program exposes students to international culture and business practices, while encouraging them to think globally and develop fundamental business skills.   From October22, 2011, students were paired with mentors from six global companies: KFC, Papa John's International, Flavorman, Sϋd-Chemie, Glowtouch Technologies, and Linak US to learn the skill sets needed to interview with international professionals, navigate global supply chain and conduct business in a foreign land. Students were able to tour companies and gather marketing and human resources tips on cultural norms of at least two foreign countries.

With the success of this year's event, plans are already in place to continue the program next year.  Learn more about the Amazing Global Marketplace program, become a mentor or nominate your class for inclusion by visiting www.amazingglobalmarketplace.com.
