Ambassador Message: Welcome to the Southern Sudanese and Sudanese Community in Louisville Kentucky. My dear Louisvillian, G.L.I.P’s ambassadors, and members, my wife and I, are pleased to introduce you to the newly born nation of Southern Sudan. The Republic of South Sudan (RSS) is entering the world as its 193rd nation with an overjoyed population that views this moment of freedom as decades in the making. I would like you to support and recognize the newly born nation of South Sudan. South Sudan became an independent country on 9 July, 2011 last year after a referendum ended decades of civil war that had killed an estimated 2 million people. The world has a new nation South Sudan; Thousands of South Sudanese citizens celebrated their 2nd year anniversary milestone with a massive street party. Thank you to the American people and the city of Louisville; The United States has been involved in the Sudanese peace process for many years. In 2005, President George W. Bush sent Powell, then the U.S. secretary of state, to the region to broker a comprehensive peace agreement that would end the 20-year conflict and begin the road to independence for the south Sudan.
