My Louisville

I would like to inform members of the group of a new JCPS development. The dual language Spanish/English immersion program at Hawthorne Elementary School has been granted Optional program status starting in the 2012/2012 school year. The program has been in existence at Hawthorne for a number of years, but this change is intended to develop the program as a true two-way immersion program to enhance academic performance and cognitive development of both native-English and native-Spanish-speaking students. The change will allow any student who is accepted into the program and resides within the Hawthorne Cluster to have transportation provided and allows those outside the cluster to attended if the parents can provide transportation. I'm chair of the school PTA's Dual Language Support Committee and would be happy to provide additional information about the dual language program.
