 Workforce    

The Greater Louisville workforce draws from a 24 county bi-state area that consists of sixteen counties and eight Southern Indiana counties. The Kentucky counties include Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Grayson, Hardin, Henry, Jefferson, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby, Spencer, Trimble, and Washington. The Indiana counties include Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Orange, Scott, and Washington. The most populous county is Jefferson County, KY with 699,827 residents.

Postsecondary institutions in the regional Louisville metro area continue to see growth in enrollment and the number of degrees awarded at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Overall postsecondary enrollment is up sixteen percent between the Fall semesters of the 2000-01 and 2004-05 academic years. The greatest increases occurred at the associate degree program level or below (including certificates) signaling the beginning of significant change in educational attainment in the Louisville MSA.

Bluegrass State Skills Corp.
There are two ways to receive training incentives through this program: Grants or Tax Credits.

The BSSC grant program is available to new, expanding and existing business and industry. Eligible training activities include pre-employment skills training and assessment; entry-level skills upgrade and occupational upgrade training; train-the-trainer travel; and capacity building.

The Skills Training Investment Credit Act provides credits to existing businesses for skills upgrade training to develop a skilled workforce. It allows companies to recover fifty percent (50%) of their approved costs for occupational and skills upgrade training costs through an income tax credit limited to $500 per Kentucky resident employed not to exceed $100,000 per company per biennium.

KYWINS - Kentucky Workforce Investment Network System
KYWINS is a workforce training incentive program administered by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. The goal of the KY WINS initiative is to provide high-level transferable technical skills training to existing and new industries and businesses that are creating high paying jobs for Kentucky's citizens. The program can provide up to 75% of the costs for training, assessing, and job profiling services. Most programs result in college credit being awarded or a credential. Staff consists of a statewide network of KYWINS Training Consultants and Community and Economic Development Coordinators.

Eligible companies include:
1) existing Kentucky companies who are expanding and creating new jobs
2) existing Kentucky companies who are requiring employees to learn new skills in order to retain their jobs, and
3) new companies who are contributing to Kentucky's economic development.

JCPS Adult Education and Training Options
Jefferson County Public Schools Adult and Continuing Education offers a variety of affordable training courses that can be customized to meet the training needs of your workforce.
