Introduction
Six years ago, community leaders made a historic decision and set an ambitious course:
to transform Greater Louisville from a "nice average city" to "an economic hot spot" -
a place brimming with opportunities that would keep more indigenous talent at home and
attract new people, new energy, new ideas and new wealth to the community.
The Visioning Report outlined the seven areas on which to
focus to achieve our goal:
• Logistics • Health-Related Enterprises
• Entrepreneurship • Technology
Strategies |
• Workforce Development
• Traditional Strengths
• Regional Development |
Great progress has been made in these key areas, and it is important to GLI that our community's
business leaders know about these achievements, understand how they were accomplished and determine
exactly what needs to be done to take our community to the next level. The Greater Louisville Inc.
Development Expedition (GLIDE) offers that opportunity and more.
In October of 2005, Greater Louisville Inc. plans to take local leaders on an expedition to a
city that has taken "quantum leaps" forward and has never looked back.
Kansas City, Missouri has been diligently working to re-energize its downtown, making it not
only a place to work, but to live and play as well. Through timely action and a comprehensive
master plan, Kansas City has made tremendous strides in introducing residential, commercial,
and entertainment venues to its downtown corridor. It has fueled development through public
leadership with business investment and has built and sustained momentum through strategic
objectives.
Greater Louisville Inc. invites you to help build our community's momentum by participating
in the 2005 GLIDE to Kansas City, Missouri. This executive series is designed to unite
the business community's leaders and the metro government on key strategic areas that will
help guide and promote Louisville's growth.
This year's GLIDE will focus on Kansas City's efforts in the following areas:
- The Kansas City Downtown Corridor Strategy (Sasaki Plan) - a comprehensive master plan for revitalization
- Economic impact of a strong downtown core including a multi-purpose arena
- Bi-state economic development strategies and successes
- Rapid growth through public leadership with business investment.
- Arena architecture - do's and don'ts
