Louisville's New Economic Hot Spot

The West Louisville economic development initiative experienced a fruitful year with 16 business projects that are expected to result in over $31 million in new investments and 358 new jobs that will create over $13 million in new annual payrolls.  Additionally, 39 companies expressed an interest in starting, expanding, or relocating a business in West Louisville in 2005 while 156 businesses interacted with the West Louisville Economic Development Manager to promote their sustainability.

Brownfield Redevlopment Workshops

 Metro Louisville, the Center for Neighborhoods, and The University of Louisville's Center for Environmental Policy and Management recently joined forces to secure a 3-year EPA grant to begin addressing brownfield areas that hinder the economic
growth of an important West Louisville Corridor.


The Park Hill area located between 9th and 18th Streets and West Broadway and Algonquin Parkway is the focus of a nine-week workshop series intended to strengthen the economic vitality of the neighborhood by increasing local knowledge about brownfield revitalization.

U of L Signature Partnerships

 Following the recommendation of his Community Partnership Board, University of Louisville President James Ramsey has made
an unprecedented commitment to use the school's resources to help improve West Louisville in the areas of (1) economic development (2) health services (3) social services and (4) educational attainment.


This unique initiative will utilize the research, academic, administrative and influential capacities of the university to help improve the standard of living and access to economic opportunity in West Louisville.


Currently, the University of Louisville has several initiatives underway in support of this mission, but continues to work on identifying more signature partnerships that bring value to this four-part strategy. 


Look for more information on these signature partnerships in the near future as the University of Louisville unveils a comprehensive strategy to support the growth of West Louisville.
