Louisville Metro Snow Team Ready for Winter
The city’s four agencies responsible for winter weather response are now better coordinated, thanks to the new 2005-2006 Louisville Metro Snow and Ice Removal Plan. The Louisville Metro snow team – Louisville Metro Public Works, Solid Waste Management Services, Metro Parks and the Metropolitan Sewer District – has 225 employees and 130 pieces of equipment to clear 1,047 miles of road in Louisville.
Operators of the snow command control room now have real-time progress maps available that will allow tracking of crews’ work as they fan out across the community. Drivers will radio the control room when a route is complete, with information being immediately entered into a computer and the map updated to indicate where salting or plowing is complete.
Snow coordinators will also be proactive in letting residents know about road conditions and storm response through local news, the city’s website and MetroTV. For more information about the snow plan, call MetroCall at 311 or log on to www.louisvilleky.gov.
