Introduction
On Jan. 6, 2003, Louisville became the first major metropolitan city
in 30 years to merge city and county governments. The city is now
attracting attention from other communities wanting to streamline
their local governments.
In November, 2002, voters elected the new city's first mayor, Jerry E. Abramson, and a 26-member Metro Council, to lead Louisville's transition and its charge toward the future. In addition, the city is well represented in Frankfort, the state capital, and in Washington, D.C. |
