Greater Louisville Inc. Announces 2011 Board of Directors

LOUISVILLE, KY (03.28.11) - Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce announced today new members joining its Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the governing bodies for the organization.  In addition, new board leadership was announced.

“Each of these leaders has stepped up and made a commitment to help lead the business community in Greater Louisville,” said Joe Reagan, President and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. “Our board continues to evolve, with inclusive leadership representative of all types and sizes of businesses, and both experienced and emerging leaders.  We have a strong group at the helm of our region’s economic and business development strategy.”

Mary Pat Regan, President of AT&T Kentucky, was appointed Chair of the GLI Board of Directors. She replaces Bob Lekites, formerly of UPS Airlines, who will now serve as Immediate Past Chair. Jeff Bringardner, President of Humana-Kentucky, was appointed Incoming Chair.  John Hawkins, Managing Partner of Deloitte & Touche, LLP, was appointed Treasurer and John Crockett, Chairman of Frost Brown Todd, LLC, was appointed Secretary.

2011 GLI Annual Meeting Celebrated Innovative Spirit of Louisville

Louisville, Ky. (March 16, 2011) – Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Meeting last night, celebrating community innovation and achievements over the past year.
 
“GLI’s Annual Meeting gives the Greater Louisville community an opportunity to recognize the tremendous achievements that are possible in our region,” said Joe Reagan, President and CEO of Greater Louisville Inc. “A common thread throughout this year’s program was innovation and the role it plays in regional success, from traditional industries to new ventures. Louisville is on the path to become an epicenter for ideas, attracting imaginative people from around the globe. Last night’s program highlighted the success we’ve already achieved toward this goal.”
 
The program began with Louisville’s largest flash mob to date. (A flash mob is a group of people who gather at a public location to perform a surprise action, such as a coordinated dance.) James Ramsey and Joe Steier to Receive GLI Award for Achievement

Greater Louisville Inc. today announced the winners of its prestigious Silver Fleur-De-Lis Award, which will be delivered at GLI’s annual meeting on Tuesday, March 15. The award, which recognizes outstanding commitments and achievements in the Greater Louisville community, is bestowed each year upon individuals and organizations that show leadership and action to make the region a better place to live and work.

The 2011 recipients are Joe Steier, President and CEO of Signature HealthCARE, and Dr. James Ramsey, President of the University of Louisville. Both leaders have been instrumental in developing Louisville’s bourgeoning Aging Care sector, a key area of economic growth that encompasses headquarters, suppliers, researchers and service firms catering to the lifestyle changes of an aging demographic. Louisville is home to the largest cluster of aging care companies in the nation, with more than 8,000 industry professionals producing more than $28 billion in revenue.

GLI Leading Delegation of Business Owners and Entrepreneurs to Global Business Forum

Christy and Owsley Brown II Awarded GLI's Gold Cup

Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce today announced it was awarding its most prestigious honor to Christy and Owsley Brown II for their contributions to the community. The Gold Cup is bestowed in recognition of lifetime community service and leadership, and has been awarded only 18 times since its creation in 1969. The award will be delivered at GLI’s annual meeting on Tuesday, March 15.

Greater Louisville Inc.’s ENTERPRISECORP Receives Award for Excellence in Economic Development

Greater Louisville Inc.’s enterprise development arm, ENTERPRISECORP, received an Honorable Mention for Excellence in Economic Development for its work developing entrepreneurship in the region. The honor, delivered by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), recognizes the ENTERPRISECORP’s success nurturing an entrepreneurial climate and helping individual entrepreneurs access the funding and guidance needed for growth.

Greater Louisville Inc. Receives Lumina Foundation Grant to Assist with Degree Completion for Adults

Thousands of Louisville residents who have some college credits but never earned a degree have new support in earning their credentials. Greater Louisville Inc. and the HIRE Education Forum have received an $800,000 grant from the Lumina Foundation to help regional adults complete their degrees. The grant is part of the foundation’s national strategy to support adult-learners with college credits in earning a degree or credential of value in the workplace.
