State of Entrepreneurship Reports
There have been three earlier State of Entrepreneurship reports that led the way to this fourth edition and update. These reports have been effective, most notably with the original report entitled “Growing Success” prepared by Doug Cobb in 1996. This critical assessment of our entrepreneurial state would pave the way for more entrepreneurial support and further needed improvement as a means to economic growth. The impact of the preceding reports called for the launch of ENTERPRISECORP in 1998. State incentives for start-ups were implemented in 2000 and the creation of Angel Groups and the Kentucky Seed Fund in 2005, are just a few examples.
This 2010 update is critical. Entrepreneurial activity is more important now, than ever before, to the economic health of our region. One of the most important aspects of this report is that it will be used as a guide in decisions about setting public policy and hopefully inspiring leaders to incorporate these recommendations into policy.
The 2010 State of Entrepreneurship report is an update to the previous reports and highlights what has happened here in the past five years and makes recommendations as to what strategically needs to occur over the next five. We are becoming known as a place for entrepreneurship but we must always be mindful that we have tremendous opportunities, and challenges, ahead.
