OklahomaCity Announced as Destination for GLI’s 2012 GLIDE

Greater Louisville Idea Development Expedition Sparks Discovery and Growthfor Region

Louisville, Ky. (7/18/12) –Greater LouisvilleInc. is pleased to announce the details of the upcoming 2012 Greater LouisvilleIdea Development Expedition (GLIDE). This year’s intercity trip will take placeOctober 21-23, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

A group of communityleaders, elected officials, entrepreneurs, education representatives andbusiness professionals will join GLIDE Chair, Jim Welch, ViceChairman of Brown-Forman Corporation, in OKC.

In recent years, Oklahoma City has turned its setbacks intoopportunities. Througha comprehensive master plan and the use of dedicated revenue sources, OKC hasmade tremendous strides in transforming its downtown core, re-castingthe city's image and improving its educationalinstitutions and civic amenities. Oklahoma City is now renowned for its low cost of doing business, job growth, cleanliness, active lifestyle and focus on education.

As with previous GLIDE trips, the goal is toexplore another city and learn from its experiences -- bringing home ideas thatwill benefit Greater Louisville’s community and economic development efforts.Previous study missions have acted as inspiration and catalysts for importantlocal projects like Fourth Street Live!, the YUM! Center downtown arenaand the creation of the One Dream® for our 26-country region.

In anticipation, a Pre-GLIDE luncheon sessionwill be held on July 25, 2012.  Thediscussion will focus on how localities, such as OKC and other previous GLIDEdestination cities, are utilizing alternative revenue sources to fund the visionof the future and how this can be possible in Louisville. Panelists includeMayor Greg Fischer, Floyd Ciruli of Ciruli Associates and Dr. Janet Kelly,Executive Director of the Urban Studies Institute at the University ofLouisville.

Special thanks to the 2012 Presenting Sponsor, LG&E. Full event informationand registration is available for this year’s trip online at:  www.greaterlouisville.com/GLIDE.
