Dan Ulmer Announced as GLI’s Annual Meeting Gold Cup Recipient

Louisville, Ky. (3/12/12) – Greater Louisville Inc. – The Metro Chamber of Commerce announced today that it was awarding its most prestigious award, the Gold Cup, to Dan Ulmer for his contributions to the community. The Gold Cup is bestowed in honor of lifetime community service and leadership, and has been awarded only 19 times since its creation in 1969. The award will be delivered at GLI’s annual meeting on Tuesday, March 20, 2012.

After a 40-year banking career, Ulmer retired as the Chairman and CEO of PNC Bank, Kentucky. Presently, he is Chairman and part-owner of the Louisville Bats Baseball franchise and owner –investor in several businesses locally.

Throughout his career, Ulmer has been greatly invested in the growth and welfare of the community, having served as Chairman of the Metro United Way Fund Drive, Operation Brightside, Kentucky State Fair Board, Regional Airport Authority and Metro Parks, among other civic organizations.

His work with the Louisville Arena Authority was integral to the creation of the KFC Yum! Center and this passion for sports earned him induction into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.

Past GLI Gold Cup recipients include Henry Heuser, Sr., Archibald Cochran, Barry Bingham, Sr., Wilson Wyatt, Sr., Owsley Frazier, David Jones, Edward Glasscock and Joan Riehm.

GLI’s 2012 Annual Meeting takes place on Tuesday, March 20 at the KFC Yum! Center. The event will feature keynote speaker Jeff Immelt, GE Chairman and CEO. The evening will focus on the importance of reinvesting in US manufacturing and GE in the Greater Louisville region.
